An accurate fuel gauge, according to aviation safety standards and rapidly available for the helicopter prototype of Marenco Swiss Helicopter, these where the basic requirements.
Outcome
Starting with a functional prototype, a capacitive sensor solution has been developed which does not only indicate the height of the fuel in the tank, but also compensates for the form of the tank and which works independent of the temperature and exact fuel type. As an additional feature the sensor delivers also the fuel mass in kg.
Implementation
During development functional safety processes of Solcept where used, leading to a cost-effective qualification of the sensor. By Solcept assuming the overall responsibility for the subsystem, including intensive collaboration on the mechanical solution, a solution could be found that is optimum for the helicopter and easily integrated with the other avionics.
Customer
The startup Marenco Swisshelicopter has developed Switzerland’s first helicopter, the Skye SH09, a 2.5 t turbine helicopter, from the ground up.
