This was exactly the requirement of our customer dormakaba: to open a door without taking a key or badge out of the pocket. In order to fulfill this, Solcept has turned an idea that is known for a long time into a series product: capacitive transmission of information. The first time, because the technology (RCID: Resistive-Capacitive IDentification) until now did not get beyond functional prototypes.
By Solcept taking over all steps from rapid prototype to series ramp-up including knowledge management of the technology, the development team at the customer could concentrate on bringing other products to the market fast. As always with Solcept, even though we took over the complete responsibility, all intellectual property stays with the customer. So he remains independent.
The transmission uses the direct-sequence spread spectrum (DS-SS) method and fast coding, together with a low-noise front-end and a DSP (Digital Signal Processor) on the receiver and a semi-custom ASIC (Application Specific Integrated Circuit) as low-power sender. Using ultra-low-power technologies, also the receiver could be designed so that several hundred thousand door openings and a stand-by time of several years is possible from two AA cells.
